Suns Urged to Reunite with Veteran Free Agent Guard for Key Reason

As NBA free agency officially begins on Monday night, many teams around the league are preparing to add players to their roster to help them chase a championship next season.

While some teams are looking to upgrade their roster for a championship pursuit, others, like the Phoenix Suns, are just trying to upgrade it to bounce back after a disappointing season.

Of course, the Suns missed the playoffs last season and they kicked off their offseason by trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, five first-round picks and the 10th pick in the 2025 draft that they used to select Khaman Maluach out of Duke.

Now the Suns shift their focus to upgrading their roster even more in free agency and they have already been linked to multiple players.

While Phoenix has been linked to multiple players thus far, ESPN insider Bobby Marks believes that they should reunite with Chris Paul this summer.

“Sign Chris Paul to a one-year, $3.6 million contract,” Marks wrote about what he believes Phoenix should do in free agency. “How fitting would it be for the Suns to sign the player they traded for Beal? The 40-year-old Paul could not only be a mentor to Jalen Green but also help Phoenix on the court. In addition to playing 82 games in 2024-25, Paul has averaged at least seven assists in four of the past five seasons.”

Of course, Paul played in Phoenix for three seasons from 2020 to 2023 before the Suns sent him to the Washington Wizards as part of the Beal trade.

Last season, the 40-year-old played for the San Antonio Spurs and despite the success he had with them, he is expected to move on this summer.

Phoenix would be a great fit for Paul as he would become a key piece of their roster due to their lack of a point guard and he could also help develop Green, even if it is only for one season.

While Paul’s fit in Phoenix would be a solid one, there should be many teams interested in him this summer and it is likely that he will end up joining a title contender.
