Jake LaRavia leaves Sacramento, signs 2-year deal with the Lakers

While the Sacramento Kings didn’t have many key free agents heading into Monday’s moratorium beginning.

The decision on Keon Ellis’ team option and Jake LaRavia’s free agency were their primary decisions. New general manager Scott Perry picked up Ellis’ option, and now LaRavia is headed to a Pacific Division rival.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, free agent Jake LaRavia has agreed to a fully guaranteed two-year, $12 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Dorian Finney-Smith unexpectedly turned down his $15.4 million player option before signing a four-year, $52 million deal with the Houston Rockets. He was the first domino to change teams on Monday.

That left the Lakers without reliable wing depth, seemingly causing them to pivot to LaRavia.

When Sacramento acquired LaRavia from Memphis last season, they inherited a salary restriction that limited what they could offer him in free agency.

Their max offer started at $5.2 million in the first season, slightly below the six million annually he got from Los Angeles.

Yet another roster hole is created for Perry to fill. Although maybe rookie Nique Clifford could aid them in year one.

With the NBA’s free agency period set to begin on Monday, the Sacramento Kings have made one of their most pressing offseason decisions: Choosing a lane on a contract for Keon Ellis.

Sacramento had two options entering the offseason: picking up Ellis’ $2.3 million team option for the 2025-26 season, which would allow the guard to enter unrestricted free agency next summer, or declining the option and attempting to re-sign Ellis for a longer contract during this free agency period.

New Kings general manager Scott Perry made his choice on Sunday as Sacramento picked up the 2025-26 team option on Ellis, meaning the two-way guard will be entering a contract year this fall.
