The Phoenix Suns are amid an offseason that has already brought about significant changes at every level. The changes began at the head coaching position when they fired Mike Budenholzer after just one season, with $40 million remaining on his contract. The next came when owner Mat Ishbia moved James Jones into an advisory position to install Brian Gregory as the general manager.
For months, it was rumored that the Suns would look to trade Durant in the offseason after shopping him at the trade deadline. That was likely Gregory's first major order of business, and he executed a trade that sent Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the NBA Draft, and five second-round picks.
Suns battling one West team to land Chris Paul in free agency
Gregory has been quite active, as evidenced by his trade for center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets during the NBA Draft. With free agency now open, Gregory will likely remain active in an attempt to bolster their roster further.
NBA Insider Chris Haynes reported the latest on a player the Suns are pursuing in free agency.
"Chris Paul plans to decide between the Suns and Clippers."
If he goes to either of those teams, it will be a reunion either way. Paul played for the Clippers six seasons between 2011 and 2015 and the Suns for three years from 2020 to 2023.
Paul helped the Suns to an appearance in the NBA Finals, but physically wore down down the stretch, as the Milwaukee Bucks emerged victorious. While his role this time around would be drastically different, his veteran experience could help the younger players in that locker room develop.
