The Boston Celtics quickly found their replacement for Luke Kornet.
Boston agreed to terms with free agent center Luka Garza on Monday, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Kornet, on the other hand, will be headed to the San Antonio Spurs on a four-year, $41 million contract that rewards him for back-to-back stellar campaigns.
Garza’s deal is for significantly less money, as it was reported to be a two-year, $5.5 million fully guaranteed pact.
The C’s aren’t finding a one-for-one replacement here, but they’re able to replace lost front court depth without dipping into any of their recent savings. Kornet’s role was invaluable, but the idea is that at least one of Garza, Neemias Queta and rookie Amari Williams can combine to replace lost production.
Garza, 26, played in 39 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season, averaging 3.5 points and 1.4 rebounds. Boston will be the third stop on his journey through the NBA, which abagan after a successful college career at Iowa in which he was named National Player of the Year in 2021.
