What Is 'Best-Case' Scenario For New-Look Bills Defense?

For most, the biggest reason for the Buffalo Bills' failing last season was the performance of the defense.

The unit struggled to sack the quarterback and couldn't get off the field on third down, which, as we know, when combined, makes it tough sledding.

But general manager Brandon Beane went out this offseason and added some muscle along the defensive line in free agency with Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, and Larry Ogunjobi.

Plus, the Bills' first five picks in the NFL Draft were on defense, with corner Maxwell Hairston the pick of the bunch. But that is a lot of new faces for Sean McDermott to mesh.

So, fans wonder … what is the best-case scenario for this Bills defense? Bleacher Report thinks a return to the top 10.

"For the first time in four years, the Bills defense did not rank in the top 10 in both scoring and total defense," Bleacher Report wrote. "Brandon Beane responded by signing Joey Bosa and getting aggressive in the draft.

"The Bills added CB Maxwell Hairston, DL T.J. Sanders, Edge Landon Jackson and DL Deon Walker in the first four rounds of the draft. If they can get immediate contributions out of them, along with Bosa and Milano, then they are going to be right back in the top 10."

Getting returns from the free agent haul will be crucial, and Ogunjobi and Hoecht will be expected to hit the ground running once they return from their suspensions.

Plus, the draft can be seen as a little hit and miss, but Buffalo will need Hairston to be a viable contributor from Day 1, so too Sanders and Jackson.

Do that, coupled with the expected improvement of the offense under Josh Allen, and the Bills will be cooking in 2025.

Yes, there are a lot of ifs here, but sometimes you need a little luck.

Maybe 2025 is the year when the Bills finally see some fall their way.
