Man United are “close” to reaching an agreement with Brentford over a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, has exclusively told Football Insider that United will make a third bid for the 25-year-old “in the coming days”.
Ruben Amorim’s side are confident that they will get the deal done despite seeing two bids rejected, after the forward made clear his desire to join the Red Devils.
Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Man United are pushing to sign Mbeumo and talks have continued with Brentford “behind closed doors”.
The latest rejected bid is believed to have been worth £60million including add-ons, and the Bees will hold out for a fresh and increased offer.
Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Tottenham could hijack the move for Mbeumo, but any concerns about their interest have been dismissed.

Man United close in on Bryan Mbeumo deal after new update
Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Man United are closing in on Mbeumo and are advancing towards an agreement over his transfer fee.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa, insisted he expects talks to accelerate “soon” and the deal will be done in due course.
“Man United are close to signing Mbeumo,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve had a couple of bids rejected, but they’re not giving up.
“He has made Brentford, and everybody else by the sounds of things, aware that he wants to join Man United and isn’t interested in staying.
“That weakens their negotiating position slightly, but they still want to get a good fee.
“United are going to make another bid in the coming days and they’re confident they can get it done.
“From what I hear, I’m expecting things to speed up soon and I think it will go ahead.”

Emiliano Martinez update emerges at Old Trafford
While talks are ongoing about Mbeumo, United have also set their sights on signing a new goalkeeper, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez their top target.
Brown told Football Insider on 28 June that United are prepared to open talks over Martinez as soon as they can cash in on Andre Onana.
Aston Villa are open to cashing in on the Argentina international and are inviting talks, but no move will be made until Onana is moved on.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider United will accept cut-price offers for Onana after Ligue 1 outfit Monaco emerged among the interested parties.
