Nikola Krstovic to Leeds United transfer hint as £40m boost emerges

Leeds United will be back in Premier League action next month, with the club working to build the squad ahead of the start of the new season.

A new month means that the opener against Everton at Elland Road on Monday, 18 August, is getting closer. Before then, Whites fans could have the chance to see any new players in pre-season friendlies against Man United, Villarreal and AC Milan.

There are so far two new additions to the Leeds squad in the summer transfer window. Striker Lukas Nmecha has joined on a free transfer from Wolfsburg, while defender Jaka Bijol has also joined the club from Udinese.

The Whites also appear to be closing in on a move for Wolfsburg centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw. The Belgian has reportedly completed a medical at Thorp Arch before completing his transfer.

He’s not the only player linked with a move to Leeds this summer. With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at a couple of the latest stories and also given our own thoughts on the situation.

Nikola Krstovic hint

Leece are in talks over a potential replacement for Leeds United-linked Nikola Krstovic, according to reports.

The print version of Corriere Dello Sport reports that the Italian club are ‘in talks’ to sign Basel striker Kevin Carlos. The forward is considered a top target if Krstovic departs the clubs this summer.

LeedsLive says: The fact that Leece are looking for a potential replacement for the striker is a good sign in Leeds’ hopes of signing him this summer.

A new striker should be a priority for Leeds this season with Joel Piroe untested in the Premier League and uncertainty over the futures of Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford. With 11 goals in Serie A last season, Krstovic could be a smart signing for Leeds.

£40m transfer watch

Leeds United will be keeping an eye on a transfer saga involving Newcastle United and Burnley this summer, with a potential domino effect.

The Mirror say that the Magpies are closing in on a move for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, with the Clarets wanting a fee of £40 million for the player. The report adds that Leeds are monitoring Newcastle’s Nick Pope.

If Newcastle complete a move for Trafford, that could free up Pope to make a move.

LeedsLive says: Bringing a proven Premier League goalkeeper to the club could be crucial to Leeds surviving relegation at the end of the season. Some reports suggest that Newcastle could ask for as little as £15 million for Pope, which could be a really good price for Leeds.
