Fabrizio Romano says Man United were offered the chance to sign £66m striker but they said no

Manchester United are in the market for a new striker this summer.

The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha, while Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo wants to move to Old Trafford as well in the coming days.

Once those deals are done, Ruben Amorim is expected to push for a new centre-forward, and United have been linked with several names in recent weeks.

However, one striker will definitely not be joining the Old Trafford giants this summer.

Fabrizio Romano says Jhon Duran was offered to Manchester United on loan

Jhon Duran has had an eventful year.

The Colombia international had a stunning first six months at Aston Villa and scored some important goals for Unai Emery’s side.

In January, he secured a £66 million move to Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr (Romano), where he shared the pitch with Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, after just six months there, Duran is on the move again, and Romano has revealed that he was offered to Manchester United on loan.

The Red Devils could’ve signed him if they covered his wages, but the decision-makers at Old Trafford decided that they didn’t want him.

Romano said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Man United were also offered the possibility of signing Jhon Duran from Al-Nassr on an initial loan deal covering his salary.

“But, Man United decided to turn down that possibility to focus on different targets.”

Jhon Duran’s massive wages must have been the problem for Manchester United

Many Manchester United fans would’ve taken Duran ahead of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

The Al-Nassr star is a fantastic striker. He is strong, can hold the ball up, is clinical in front of goal and has the ability to score screamers.

He would have been a very good option for the Red Devils, but his wages were perhaps the main issue for the club, who have been trying to cut down on costs for over a year now.

According to Capology, Duran pockets an eye-watering €392,500 a week at Al-Nassr, which is the equivalent of a little over £336,600 every week.

That is a massive figure for someone who is still just 21 years old, and that must be one of the reasons why United decided against signing him this summer.
