The biggest new Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Liverpool, Sunderland, Everton and Fulham.
Once again, we’re back with our morning round-up of some of the juiciest new Premier League transfer rumours from yesterday evening – starting with a big-money story which should interest the Liverpool fans amongst you.
According to TeamTalk, the future of Colombian winger Luis Díaz is once more in doubt, with the Reds set to receive a “tempting” offer from Saudi Arabia in the near future which could be worth as much as €85m (£73m).
Al-Nassr still have Díaz down as their top target out wide, and with competition from Barcelona seemingly becoming less likely as the Catalan club prepares to sign Nico Williams, they may be the only club who give Liverpool a decision to make as they work out whether to cash in and help fund their summer spending spree.
Díaz “remains a key figure” at Anfield and has publicly stated that he’s happy to stay, but this report notes that his representatives may be “unhappy” after the club apparently refused to offer him a new deal which boosted his relatively low £55,000 per week pay packet. Well, low by Premier League footballer standards, anyway. The rest of us would scrape by.
The 3AM Verdict:Díaz’s future has been the subject of speculation for a while now and Liverpool are unlikely to get a better offer any time soon – but just how much squad turnover do they want this summer? We’ll see if a bid actually comes in, but if that price tag is right then it will be tricky to turn down.
Sunderland target £21m Spanish striker
Premier League newcomers Sunderland are working hard to upgrade their squad ahead of what may prove to be a tough season – and according to Spanish rumourmongers Fichajes, the Black Cats are “the leading candidate” to sign Almería striker Luis Suárez. No, not that one.
The 27-year-old Spaniard was the leading scorer in the Spanish second tier last season, bagging 31 times in all competitions, and is supposedly seen as a “sure bet” by Sunderland’s transfer team.
Almería’s directors have decided to put a €25m (£21m) price tag on their star player’s head, and apparently Sunderland “have not ruled out” paying that fee in full in order to get their man. It doesn’t sound like a formal offer has been made as yet, however.
The 3AM Verdict: We’re going to start off by noting that Fichajes is, in our opinion, not the most reliable source of transfer stories given their historic track record, but there’s nothing inherently implausible about this particular story. We’ll wait until a source we trust a little more suggests the same before we start believing it, though.
Fulham get boost as Everton set to miss out on wing-back
Finally, a story from Fabrizio Romano about a transfer which probably won’t happen after all – Everton’s proposed bid for Fulham right-back Kenny Tete, whose contract at Craven Cottage is now over.
Everton had been expected to sign Tete on a free transfer at the beginning of July, but if the Italian transfer hound has his facts straight then Fulham are in fact “closing in” on a new agreement with the Dutchman that will keep him at Craven Cottage and send Everton back to their lengthy shortlist of potential wing-back signings.
Romano said that “formal steps” still had to be taken to get Tete’s signature, but the Cottagers are said to be “confident” that they’ve changed their player’s mind about leaving. Tete is said to have “almost accepted” Everton’s proposal before the U-turn.
The 3AM Verdict: Great news for Fulham and bad news for Everton, who perhaps inch closer to the prospect ofsigning Kyle Walker instead, a deal which was widely rumoured before the Toffees went in for Tete instead.
