Everton are set to continue their transfer pursuit of Thierno Barry.

The Premier League outfit are desperate for attacking reinforcements, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin departing at the end of his contract on 30 June.

There is also interest in Beto and Villareal striker Barry fits the profile of what the Toffees need from the man leading their line.

The 22-year-old recently starred at the Under-21 European Championships and notched 11 goals and four assists in La Liga last season.

Barry ultimatum emerges as Everton offices rumble

David Moyes’ side have already seen a bid rejected for Barry, as they try to tempt Villarreal to sell for less than they would like to.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Levante EMW has reported in its print edition (1 July, pg 35) that the Blues will have to pay the £33.7million release clause or come very close to it amid rumbles from their offices that he is the number one striker target.

It states that the Spanish outfit are clear on their position, they have no intention of allowing him to leave for anything less.

Everton need to pay up for Barry

Barry is a quick attacker, strong in the air and can carry the ball and bring others into play, exactly what Moyes needs from his striker.

The demands on a forward at the Hill Dickinson Stadium will not be easy to carry, but given how quickly Barry adapted to Spanish football after his move from FC Basel last summer, it is an encouraging sign.

They cannot risk losing out on one of the most promising youngsters in football over a few million; they should pay the money that the La Liga outfit demands and get the deal done.

It would be a brilliant first summer addition for the Friedkin Group as they look to give Moyes what he needs to achieve his aim of qualifying for European football next season.

With the signature of Barry, that goal becomes a lot more realistic as he has shown he can find the back of the net, no matter where he is playing.

Of course, they will need more top-quality signings, but it would be a great start to their business if they could seal the deal.
