Existing striker Rasmus Hojlund is likely to depart this window. But, there are also worries over the futures of Marcus Rashford and Antony. So, the Red Devils are keen to bring in a proven Premier League goal maker. Watkins has scored 16 goals this season. That is despite playing fewer minutes. He is seen as a top and reasonable option.
As per The Athletic, club officials have already contacted Aston Villa about a potential transfer. However, the Midlands club won’t let him go for cheap. His price tag is set around £60m. He fits the profile of players Amorim wants. He has experience, consistent, and has already adapted to the PL’s intensity.
Red Devils’ Transfer Business Leans on Outgoings
Ruben Amorim is preparing to reshape United’s attack this window. Given that, selling players is just as important as signing new ones.
Inter Milan have shown interest in Hojlund. Meanwhile, Antony is on Real Betis’ radar. And Rashford’s reportedly wants to move to Barcelona. So, that has shut down any swap deal that would have seen him head to Villa in exchange for Ollie.
Reports suggest that Watkins is keen to take on a different challenge. But, if he would want to join a team currently outside of European football is the main question. Amorim would like to take players like Watkins and Matheus Cunha who have experience in the Premier League. They can come in and settle almost immediately into the his system.
The summer window looks to be a big one at Old Trafford. And Watkins could be at the centre of it.
