Sheffield United should offer Leeds United man a new permanent home, has worked with Ruben…

Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles will want to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad this summer.

Sheffield United have turned to the Spaniard as their replacement for Chris Wilder recently. SUFC will be aiming for promotion to the Premier League next season.

Selles, 42, was sacked by Hull City last month, despite keeping them in the Championship. He has also managed the likes of Southampton and Reading in the past.

The Blades could do with adding some more firepower into their squad over the next couple of months. One player who would be ideal for the South Yorkshire outfit is Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt.

Gelhardt, 23, is facing an uncertain future at Elland Road after they won the second tier title. He is unlikely to get much game time with the Whites in the top flight so an exit would be a sensible move for him in this window.

He is a player who Selles knows well following their time at Hull City together in the last campaign. The forward linked up with the Tigers on loan in January to get some minutes and went on to score five goals in 20 games to help them survive.

Sheffield United should sign Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United

Sheffield United will want to bounce back from the disappointment of losing the play-off final to Sunderland as soon as they can. SUFC have the chance to bring in reinforcements to add more quality to their ranks.

If they snapped up Gelhardt, he would give them more competition and depth up top. He would also offer something different in attacking areas.

The ex-England youth international needs to lay down some new permanent roots and Bramall Lane would be the ideal next destination for him under a manager he knows and trusts. The Liverpudlian proved at Hull City last term that he knows where the back of the net is in the second tier.

Joe Gelhardt would suit Sheffield United

Sheffield United should pursue Gelhardt as he is still young, has potential to grow and develop and could be available at the right price. SUFC need to get their recruitment right under Selles.

Leeds United landed him in 2020 after he caught the eye at Wigan Athletic. He rose up through the Latics’ academy ranks and broke into their first-team as a teenager.

He has since played 57 matches for the Whites and has chipped in with three goals, as well as having a temporary spell away at Sunderland. Although Gelhardt’s numbers with the Whites aren’t the best, he has been limited to a lot of substitute appearances.
