Newcastle United have turned their attentions towards Chelsea winger Noni Madueke who could Stamford Bridge in search of guaranteed playing time.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that 23-year-old would be interested in a move to St James’ Park.

This comes as the Magpies could now walk away from their efforts to sign Anthony Elanga after seeing a £45million bid for the Nottingham Forest star rejected.

Eddie Howe’s side have been long-term admirers of Madueke after Football Insider revealed in August 2024 that Newcastle could sign Madueke for £30million.

However, they are unlikely to be alone in their efforts to sign the winger should he become available, with the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa tracking the situation.

Brown told Football Insider on 12 April that Tottenham are in pole position to sign Madueke as they would allow him to remain in London.

Newcastle eye Noni Madueke after source’s Chelsea reveal

Football Insider revealed in April that Enzo Maresca has concerns about Madueke’s attitude and whether he fits in with his plans for the future.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that the winger is now open to a move to Newcastle where he would be guaranteed first-team football.

“Madueke is going to be one to watch this summer,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s at a stage in his career now where he has to be playing regularly, especially with the World Cup around the corner if he wants to keep his place.

“Uncertainty around whether he’ll be playing won’t help him at club level or internationally.

“Chelsea were already well-stocked with attacking players, and now they’re signing more.

“The competition for places there means he could be in one game and then out for the next three.

“From what I hear, Newcastle would be prepared to offer him assurances over his playing time and he would be the first-choice on that right-hand side.

“If he gets an offer like that, he’ll take it.

“It looks like Newcastle might miss out on Elanga because Forest are demanding more money than they are willing to pay for him.

“It’s not ideal for Newcastle, but now they’ll be looking at other targets.

“Madueke is on that list, and if Chelsea decide they are open to offers, I expect Newcastle to make a move.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin update emerges after Everton exit

Alongside their ambitions of strengthening out wide, Newcastle have also been planning to bring in a new striker after Callum Wilson left the club.

Football Insider revealed on 30 June that Newcastle are considering signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer after his departure from Everton.

However, they will be rivalled by other teams including Fulham with teams both domestically and abroad put on alert by his availability.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle could walk away from signing Calvert-Lewin amid concerns about his fitness and injury record.
