Jonny Evans has officially retired from football. He is now beginning a new chapter at Manchester Utd. The former Northern Ireland International is now the Head of Loans and Pathways at the club. He will play a role in developing the next generation at Old Trafford.

He has played some pretty successful football. That also includes two separate spells at Utd where he made a total of 241 appearances and won numerous trophies. His collection includes 3 Premier League titles, the UCL title, the FA Cup, the Club World Cup, and two League Cup titles. The former defender’s PL career also took him to West Brom, Leicester City, and a loan spell with Sunderland.

His last international appearance came for Northern Ireland in June 2024. It was against Spain, coming full circle as he made his debut against the same country in 2006.

A New Chapter at Old Trafford

Evans’ new job will see him work closely with the club’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox. He will be managing the development of young talent through the loan system. His focus will be on preparing players to step up to the first team. He will be using his own journey through United’s academy as a model.

Following his time with the Red Devils, Jonny had great success with Leicester. He won the FA Cup in 2021 with the Foxes. He returned to Old Trafford in 2023, again under Erik ten Hag and finished with a 2024 FA Cup win. It was the last game of a very successful playing career.

He leaves a legacy of leadership, experience and commitment. He is now ready to help influence the future of Man United from a distance.
