Nottingham Forest 'ready to offer' £21m for in-demand midfielder to seal transfer

Nottingham Forest are said to have their sights on versatile AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah as they seek summer reinforcements.

The 22-year-old has been on the Reds’ radar for some time. And they are said to have reignited their interest in him as they prepare for the 2025/26 campaign.

Musah is in line to leave Milan before the transfer window closes. He has no shortage of suitors eyeing him up, with Forest reportedly among them.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Reds and fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are both ‘ready to offer’ €25 million (£21m) for the USA international. Milan would ‘not oppose’ any such move.

Musah was close to joining Napoli last month. A deal fell through but the Italian outfit are said to retain an interest in the player.

His club have made it clear they are keen to oversee an exit. There is a belief finding a home in the Premier League can ‘enhance his physical and dynamic qualities’.

West Ham United have also been credited with an interest in Musah. Able to operate as a central midfielder, a winger or a number 10, his versatility makes him an attractive proposition.

Newly-appointed Milan sporting director Igli Tare, however, has indicated the club wish to go in a different direction with their midfield next season. He addressed Musah’s future in a recent press conference, as relayed by Sempre Milan.

“I think Musah is an excellent player, but we are looking for profiles with characteristics that are useful for the project we have,” Tare said. “We are looking for deeper midfielders in a three-man midfield.

“Musah does not have these characteristics. He can play in a two or three (man midfield) but with other characteristics. This is the real reason why we want to do something different.”

Forest were first linked with Musah during his time at Valencia, prior to his move to Milan two years ago. They were credited with an interest in him during the summer of 2022 and then again the following January.

In March, they were said to have reignited their interest ahead of this summer’s transfer window. So far, the Reds are yet to welcome any new additions to head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad but a deal for Botafogo striker Igor Jesus is expected to be completed now his participation in the Club World Cup has ended.
