Crystal Palace have been given encouragement to revive their interest in Lens midfielder Andy Diouf, with him preferring a move to them over Burnley.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the 22-year-old is currently stalling on Burnley, perhaps waiting for Crystal Palace to move.
The newspaper explains that Burnley have reached an agreement with Lens for the midfielder on a deal worth €20m. That is an agreement in principle with the French side.
But the 22-year-old has not yet made a decision about a move to Turf Moor. That is because Crystal Palace are still in the running. They were keen in January and a report at the end of May insisted they were still interested heading into the summer.
Diouf is aware of this and, in the last few hours at least, has signalled that his preference would be for Crystal Palace. L’Equipe say the ‘trend’ is towards them and Burnley for now.
The problem is that Crystal Palace do not have an agreement in place with Lens. Burnley, though, have that agreement in principle on a €20m move. That puts them at the front of the queue, but Diouf appears to be holding off, waiting for Crystal Palace to move in either direction.
