Ruben Amorim sent tough message over Man Utd ace's price tag after club's transfer decision, next call made is crucial– opinion

Ruben Amorim and Manchester United might need to re-evaluate their asking price for one first-team player at Old Trafford amid the summer transfer window.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager is expected to have a summer clearout of his Red Devils first-team squad ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

United have already offloaded players this summer, with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof leaving after their contracts expired.

The Red Devils are also tipped to sell players who have been deemed surplus to requirements for Ruben Amorim, who arrived at Old Trafford last November.

United need to free up their wage bill and recoup transfer fees to keep their books in check with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are all expected to leave the Premier League club in the summer if the right bid is tabled for them.

A major Marcus Rashford transfer update has dealt a blow to Ruben Amorim and Man Utd

Marcus Rashford had been on loan at Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-25 Premier League season and the Manchester United player revived his fortunes.

Aston Villa agreed to cover a majority of Rashford’s mammoth United wages during his loan spell and did not have to pay a loan fee for the transfer.

United did include the option for Villa to make the 27-year-old England international’s move to Villa Park permanent for a £40m transfer fee.

However, Villa confirmed that Rashford’s deal had expired on 30th June and the United player would be heading back to Old Trafford after his loan spell.

“Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford and Axel Disasi each joined Villa in February on loan deals until the end of the 2024/25 season,” reads a statement on Aston Villa’s official website on Monday.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that United remain open to selling Rashford and the £40m price tag is “available” for other clubs.

Ruben Amorim and Man Utd need to head back to the drawing board over Marcus Rashford after Aston Villa’s transfer decision

United player Rashford has been linked with Barcelona and the Red Devils are keen to sanction a sale of the former Aston Villa forward in the summer transfer window.

Rashford has continued to attract interest, but there has not been a club that have put their foot forward and tabled an immediate bid for the United attacker.

The Red Devils are desperate to sell Rashford and United’s vulnerability in wanting to sell Rashford hasn’t put them in a strong position over their price tag.

That is not to mention that the noise around Rashford’s future and his prolonged stay at Old Trafford in the summer could be another distraction for Ruben Amorim.

United should not wait until the last moment to sell Rashford by holding out for a £40m price tag over the course of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League club needs to accept that Rashford’s stock value has depreciated and a £30m price tag makes the Three Lions star a more affordable target.
