Brentford's sporting director has revealed that star forward Bryan Mbeumo may stay at the Bees for the 2025/26 season.
Despite an increased offer of over £60million for Mbeumo from Manchester United, Brentford are holding firm on their higher valuation. Discussions are ongoing as both clubs look to strike a balance.
Tottenham and Newcastle have also been linked with potential moves for Mbeumo this summer. Thomas Frank made the move to Spurs after Ange Postecoglou was sacked and it's believed the Lilywhites are monitoring the situation.
Mbeumo is said to be eyeing a switch to Old Trafford, though, and he has made his wishes known to the Bees. However, the west London club has the leverage to add another year to Mbeumo's current contract, effectively giving him two more years at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Known for conducting astute business in the transfer market, Brentford have not budged easily during negotiations with United. The Red Devils will likely need to table a better bid to secure the 25-year-old's services, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Brentford's sporting director, Phil Giles, sat down with Sky Sports to discuss Mbeumo's future and warned that he could stay in London, provided an appropriate offer is not received. "There's significant interest in Bryan. I think it's been documented and publicised about, you know, his current preference," Giles stated.
"From what I understand, if needs be, he's happy to stay at Brentford next year as well, so listen, let's see on that. I think our position is he had an unbelievable season last year and we expected interest in him. If that deal is right, then there's a deal to do, but if not, then he'll stay."
Giles was asked about conversations regarding Mbeumo staying at Brentford and responded: "We've spoken to Bryan and his representatives. It's not a given that he is going to depart this summer.
"There is interest. He had a great season last season, so the interest is inevitable. If we get the right offer, there is potentially a deal to be done, but there's only so much we can say on that."
With a notable record of 20 goals and eight assists in the Premier League last term, predominantly operating as a right winger yet also stepping into central positions at times, Mbeumo is sought after this summer. Manchester United remain favourites to land the forward but Tottenham should not be ruled out just yet.
