Transfer stance set out as Nottingham Forest 'express interest' in Inter Milan man

Versatile Inter Milan midfielder Tajon Buchanan has emerged as a potential transfer target for Nottingham Forest.

The 26-year-old could be on the move this summer as his future in Italy is uncertain. With a question mark over what happens, the Reds are said to be among a number of teams circling around Buchanan.

According to TEAMtalk, Forest are one of five clubs to have ‘expressed an interest’ in the Canada international. The Reds have ‘asked for information’ about his situation as they weigh up whether to swoop for him.

They could face a fight for his signature, if they do decide to try their luck. Brentford, Sevilla and Eintracht Frankfurt have also made ‘ an approach’ for Buchanan.

Meanwhile, Villarreal are said to be keen to re-sign him after he spent the second half of last season on loan with the club. Any deal with the Spanish outfit would need to be on ‘more favourable’ financial terms, however.

So far, there have been no official bids and Inter are said to be in no rush to make any decisions. A loan move or permanent departure both represent potential options for Buchanan.

But it could be the Canadian stays put as ‘all scenarios’ are under consideration. New boss Cristian Chivu is said to want to take a look at him in pre-season as he is yet to work with the player.

Buchanan signed for the Serie A outfit from Club Brugge in January 2024, in a deal reportedly worth up to €10 million (£8.5m). A right-sided midfielder who can also play as a full-back or winger, he has more than 50 caps for his country.

Reds head coach Nuno Espirito Santo favours players with the versatility to operate in a number of positions. The Portuguese prefers to operate with a small squad, although such a stance is likely to be tested next season as Forest prepare to compete in Europe.

Playing in the Conference League will mean additional games for the Reds. Strength in depth will be key for navigating their continental adventure as well as maintaining their progress on the domestic front.

So far this summer, the City Ground is yet to welcome any new arrivals. However, striker Igor Jesus is in line to complete a switch from Botafogo now his participation in the Club World Cup has ended.
