Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool "working on deal" to sign "elite" star alongside Guehi

Liverpool are working on a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike this summer, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Premier League winners have reportedly earmarked the promising French forward as a potential reinforcement for Arne Slot’s frontline and are internally discussing the possibility of Ekitike’s arrival.

Liverpool are looking to add a new striker to their title-winning squad, as Darwin Nunez looks set to depart amid strong interest from Serie A champions Napoli.

The Uruguayan’s exit will likely make way and generate extra funds for a new number nine, with Ekitike now emerging as a target after his breakout season in Germany.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has revealed that Liverpool have internally discussed the possibility of adding Ekitike to the squad and are working towards a summer deal:

“I told you several times how Liverpool are working on this deal, how Liverpool are discussing the possibility to add Hugo Ekitike to their squad.

“Yes, because the idea for Liverpool is to have one more striker, they are waiting to understand what happens with Darwin Nunez.”

Ekitike, praised as ‘elite’, joined Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain permanently last summer and enjoyed an impressive Bundesliga campaign, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances.

There are suggestions Frankfurt could accept a fee worth around £68m to £76m this summer, lower than the German club’s initial valuation of £84m.

Liverpool have spent close to £200m on three new signings this summer, welcoming Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

The Reds are also aiming to bring in a new centre-back amid uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s future, with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi now in talks to join.
