Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup 2025 journey ended at the Round of 16 stage following a 4-3 extra-time defeat in Orlando.

We’d taken an early lead when Bernardo Silva stabbed home from close-range inside ten minutes, with Yassine Bounou in inspired form to keep Al-Hilal in the game heading into half-time.

The stopper made fine saves to deny Savinho, Ilkay Gundogan and Josko Gvardiol in the first 45, and the Saudi Arabian side took full advantage after the break to roar into a 2-1 lead.

City responded through Erling Haaland, with the Norwegian’s effort after a corner forcing extra-time.

We had to claw ourselves back level again with Phil Foden’s 100th senior goal for the Club cancelling out Kalidou Koulibaly’s header.

But it was Al-Hilal who progressed to the quarter-finals when Marcos Leonardo bundled home his second of the game in the 112th minute.
