Rangers want to sign former Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark.

The 20-year-old moved to Red Bull Salzburg with Jurgen Klopp‘s former assistant manager Pepjin Lijnders but it is safe to say that the move did not work out for either of them.

The manager was sacked in December and Clark made just 17 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga and six in the Champions League, despite signing for a fee of £10million.

Now, the Ibrox side could take advantage as the former Reds ace seeks an exit and potentially a return to British football.

Clark was loved by ex-Reds boss Klopp.

Rangers could reignite their interest in Clark this summer as they look to strengthen new manager Russell Martin’s squad.

A report from DaveOCKOP (1 July) claims that the Gers are amongst a host of clubs that are interested in signing Clark.

It states that the Reds have a 17.5 per cent sell on clause that is dependent on how much that the 20-year-old is sold for.

The young star impressed Klopp, scoring his first goal for the Anfield side in a 6-1 win over Sparta Prague in the Europa League in March 2024, with the German saying: “That was a top performance of Bobby. A real performance. Goal yes.

“But he set up whichever goal with winning the ball back up high, really high pressing situation – top, top, top.”

Clark would be a great addition for Rangers

Clark had plenty of potential on Merseyside and played a part in the 2023/24 Carabao Cup final win, when Klopp was forced to rely on several academy talents due to injury.

He featured 14 times for the Premier League outfit in all competitions and was ready to make an impact in the first-team squad, according to Liverpool News, before he was sold due to the opportunity of more regular senior game time.

The new majority owners, the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh, need to make good signings this summer; otherwise, the Gers will be further behind Celtic, and if they can pull off a deal for Clark, it would be a masterstroke.

He is exactly the type of ambitious signing that they should be pursuing, whether they can pull it off, is a completely different question entirely.

If they can, it will be a huge boost to the Govan side’s chances of catching their arch-rivals.
