Man Utd star splits from model wife after one year due to 'spiritual lifestyle' clash

Manchester United defender Matthijs De Ligt and his wife of just one year, AnneKee Molenaar, are reportedly heading for a split. The Dutch defender married the stunning model last summer in a low-key affair, but the pair are said to have called it quits already.

De Ligt also spent last summer moving to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich and featuring in the Netherlands' impressive Euro 2024 semi-final run. Therefore, the couple had plans to mark their one-year anniversary with a lavish Italian celebration later this month instead.

Nonetheless, Dutch outlet DenD report that these plans have been scrapped under mysterious circumstances.

It's understood that De Ligt dashed off to Barbados without Annekee, also aged 25, after recently spending time solo in Ibiza. A source close to the couple has indicated the marriage is over.

"Initially, there was talk of 'some time for themselves' and holidaying separately, but it is now reportedly definitely over," DenD reported, via Realityfbi.

"Matthijs is said to have travelled to Ibiza alone this week and was in Barbados for this."

According to Realityfbi, De Ligt has grown increasingly frustrated with his wife's intense spiritual pursuits.

It's claimed that De Ligt has become exasperated with Annekee's profound spiritual inclinations.

A recent broadcast aired: "Apparently, Matthijs can no longer handle Annekee's exaggerated 'spiriwiri-content'."

Molenaar's Instagram is a treasure trove of unusual posts, showcasing her interests in spirituality and the supernatural.

Her feed includes snaps of her browsing for crystals, reading tarot books, and wearing clothing adorned with cannabis symbols.

She also has a business venture called Alchemia, named after the ancient chemical practice of alchemy.

Although her Instagram still features photos of her fiancé, the United defender hasn't appeared in her updates for seven weeks, since a date night they shared.

The couple met in Amsterdam while De Ligt was playing for Ajax and got engaged in 2023.

They had a whirlwind wedding planned around the Champions League final, which saw De Ligt rush off to join the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024 immediately after the ceremony.

In an interview with Dutch Vogue, Molenaar joked that the last-minute planning of their civil wedding was reflective of their relationship.

She said: "At first, we planned to get married at the end of May, on our anniversary.

"But then it looked like Matthijs would make it to the Champions League final with Bayern Munich. So, we had to reschedule everything at the last moment."
