Milwaukee Bucks have emerged as a serious contender to sign former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton.

Milwaukee Bucks have entered the race to land former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton, positioning themselves as a serious contender in one of the summer's more intriguing free agency developments, per NBA analyst Jake Weinbach.

After securing team-friendly contracts with Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., and Taurean Prince, Milwaukee still has room to operate.

"Milwaukee still has the $14.1M non-tax MLE to spend after inking team-friendly deals with Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., and Taurean Prince," Weinbach wrote.

Ayton, now 26, is coming off a solid season with the Portland Trail Blazers. Ayton last season averaged 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 56.6% from the field.

Still, the Bucks will have to outbid strong competition. "Even if the Bucks make a strong push for Deandre Ayton, the Lakers should still be regarded as the favorites to land his signature," the analyst added.

But when it comes to financial power, Milwaukee may have the edge, at least for now.
