Manchester United are in desperate need of a new striker. They ended the 2024/25 season on a very tough note. They were able to score only 44 goals in the Premier League. Hence, Amorim is keen to bring in a clinical striker who can score on regular basis.

United have been linked with multiple players across whole Europe. They are ready to spend big and for that they have made both Hojlund and Zirkzee available for sale. Amidst this, they have ended the pursuit of young French striker.

The star in question here is Hugo Ekitike. He is 22 year old French striker who plays for Frankfurt. He scored 22 goals and picked 12 assists in the recent season for the German club. This has attracted interest from multiple top clubs.

According to The Athletic, United have ended the pursuit of Hugo Ekitike. They did monitor the striker for a long time but have now opted against signing him. The reason is due to the Frenchman’s hefty valuation from the German club.

Frankfurt want €100 million for Ekitike. In addition, they are not in rush to sell him. Hence, they are unwilling to lower their demands. United may find it very risky to spend such a high amount on a relatively unproven star.

United do have other options available in the transfer market. One of them is Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa. The Birmingham club needs to comply with PSR and hence can make Watkins available for sale. He can be a great addition to United as he has proven himself in Premier League.
