According to Shams Charania of ESPN, “JJ Barea, a 2011 NBA champion with the Dallas Mavericks, has agreed to join the Denver Nuggets as an assistant coach under David Adelman.”
Barea will take a spot on the front of the Nuggets’ coaching bench, helping with game planning and player development.
Barea enjoyed a 14-year NBA career, mostly with Dallas but also with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Standing just 6 feet tall, he was known for his speed, toughness, and high basketball IQ. Over 831 games, he averaged 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 42.4% from the field.
His biggest highlight came in 2011, when he played a key role in the Mavericks’ run to the NBA title, helping them defeat the Miami Heat in the Finals.
