Arsenal have been linked with Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera by the Spanish media since May, and last week saw claims the Gunners were moving forward with a serious attempt to sign the defender.
According to a variety of claims, Arsenal’s first offer was somewhere below €20m, with some reports putting the figure at €15m and others going as high as €19m. Regardless, that simply wasn’t enough despite the 21-year-old having just a season left on his contract.
There’s been insistence Arsenal need to pay €20m+, and [there were claims on Monday](https://sportwitness.co.uk/fresh-arsenal-offer-now-expected-in-coming-hours-gunners-ready-to-pounce/) that a fresh offer was expected from the Premier League club.
One of the curiosities around this transfer has been Valencia not officially offering their player a renewal. Mosquera has been keen to stay with the Spanish club but despite a meeting with his agents weeks ago, Valencia have very much been taking their time.
One reason for that is the arrival of a new CEO Ron Gourlay, who is taking over this month but wasn’t officially in place during June.
[Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/valencia/2025/07/01/valencia-presenta-oferta-renovacion-prometida-mosquera.html) now report the renewal offer has been made. Seemingly waiting for July 1st, Valencia are said to have offered the defender a big salary increase and an extension until 2028. There’s no figures shared but the message coming from the club is that it’d take the youngster close to the highest earners at Valencia.
Now it’s down to the player and those advising him. Either he accepts the offer or presents a fresh bid from Arsenal or another club. Running his contract down isn’t thought to be in the player’s plans.
