Arsenal have officially signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, having activated the player’s £5m release clause.
The 30 year old Spanish international spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, having previously joined the West London side from Athletic Bilbao for a fee of over £70m, making him the world’s most expensive keeper. It’s a record that stands to this day.
His time at Stamford Bridge was mixed, but he made a total of 163 appearances between 2018 and the present day, so has plenty of Premier League experience.
The Gunners had been in the market for a second goalkeeper since the departure, with first choice target Joan Garcia choosing to join Barcelona.
At £5m, it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense in the current market, and quickly solves an issue that needed to be sorted out this summer without too much fuss.
Welcome to The Arsenal.
