Report: Club have 'no intention' of selling 'physically strong' £40m 'octopus' to Man Utd this summer

Manchester United are determined to sign a new central midfielder this summer, but affordable options are proving slim.

After Ruben Amorim was far from impressed with his midfield selection choices, Manchester United are in the market for a new number eight.

Amorim’s ideal midfielder is more technical than the destroyer style that he currently has in both Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.

This has seen multiple midfielders linked, with United missing out on Jobe Bellingham as he headed to Borussia Dortmund.

Since new names have emerged, among them, United are interested in Ardon Jashari from Club Brugge, although he prefers.

The Swiss international is not alone on the shortlist for United, but now yet another option has fallen off the table.

Borussia Dortmund not planning to sell Felix Nmecha

United have been linked with multiple midfielders already over the past month.

One name that seems to be ever-present in 2025 is Felix Nmecha.

Most recently, United were linked with Nmecha last week in a bid to strengthen the midfield with the Borussia Dortmund player.

However, now it has been claimed by The Athletic, that a potential transfer is now off the table.

In the transfer deal sheet article, the report claimed that despite links to Nmecha, United have not made contact to sign the German international.

Additionally, Borussia Dortmund have ‘no intention’ to sell their 24-year-old this summer.

Manchester United may be dodging a bullet

Losing the chance to sign Nmecha would be a blow in the boardroom at Carrington, with Jason Wilcox an admirer of the 6ft 2in destroyer.

One big question mark around Nmecha was his injury record, which is a concern considering how heavily he relies on his physical traits.

Julian Brandt has labelled Nmecha as an “octopus” thanks to his long limbs resembling that of the ocean-based animal.

“He’s like an octopus. He keeps getting to the balls, stealing them, and doing us a lot of good.”

Dortmund sporting director, Sebastien Kehl, also praised Nmecha for his physicality, on the Bundesliga website.
