Leeds have officially lost Junior Firpo as they head into the Premier League next season.

Daniel Farke‘s side secured a return to the top-flight, winning the Championship title, and the left-back was a key part of that.

The Dominican international notched four goals and 10 assists for the Whites in the promotion-winning campaign and will be a huge miss.

Farke and Co already have to find an Illan Meslier replacement, a midfielder and competition for Joel Piroe up front, so Firpo’s decision will only add to their to-do list.

That is where Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell comes into play.

Leeds tipped to sign Chilwell amid Firpo exit news

Leeds have confirmed that Firpo will depart Elland Road upon the expiry of his contract, after four years at the West Yorkshire club.

The 28-year-old is widely expected to join his former club Real Betis after his Leeds exit was announced.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that his exit is only a concern if the Whites fail to bring in an adequate replacement, with Chilwell now available.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “It is only a big blow if they fail to find a good replacement.

“Suspect they have someone lined up, people like [Charlie] Cresswell and Chilwell are on the market.

*“Promoted clubs have an issue of getting better players to sign for a probable relegation fight; more average players will take the Premier League money and take their chances.*“

Chilwell would be a great addition for Leeds

Chilwell was one of the top left-backs in the country before he made the move to Chelsea in 2020, where his career has steadily declined.

He made 11 appearances on loan for Crystal Palace last season in a largely forgettable spell, but may just need a change of scenery to turn his fortunes around.

At his best, he is definitely capable of helping the Whites in their survival battle, and he has notched 13 goals and 20 assists in 177 top-flight matches, showing that he can also contribute going forward.

Losing Firpo is a blow, especially given his contributions in attack last season, but the LS11 outfit have been forced to replace him, and Chilwell would be an exciting signing for 49ers Enterprises.

He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2027, but he is not in Enzo Maresca’s plans, so a deal would probably be achievable for the newly-promoted side.
