Everton can finally start preparing their squad for next season as David Moyes knows the fates of most players whose contracts were expiring.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract at Goodison Park has expired, and he won’t be moving to Bramley-Moore Dock with the Toffees for next season.

The Blues are still in talks with Michael Keane and Idrissa Gueye, as the Scottish manager aims to maintain depth in his team.

With the likes of Ashley Young, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom and Armando Broja leaving, the Blues need several reinforcements this summer, but one academy player will stay in Merseyside for longer.

Campbell is a versatile player who primarily plays at centre-back but can also be deployed on the left side of defence.

The 20-year-old has been associated with the Merseyside outfit for seven years now, signing his first professional deal in 2022, and it will be interesting to see whether he can impress Moyes enough in the coming weeks to stake a place in the first-team squad.

Moyes has enough centre-back options for next season if Keane stays

Keane has attracted interest from Wrexham recently, but the Toffees will hope the 32-year-old extends his stay as they move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes may have also convinced Jarrad Branthwaite to sign a new contract, with a fruitful outcome expected soon.

James Tarkowski is coming off a brilliant season at the Merseyside outfit, and the Scottish manager will likely rely on him again.

Everton also have Jake O’Brien in their ranks, and while the Ireland international played as a right-back under Moyes, his natural position is in central defence.

Reinforcements at centre-back shouldn’t be a priority for the Toffees this summer as they clearly have enough quality options right now.

The Blues do need to strengthen the right and left sides of their defence, and the priority undoubtedly remains signing a quality number nine.

Nick Hammond already has a lot on his plate as he looks to bolster the Merseyside outfit’s squad, and who they end up signing this summer remains to be seen.
