We’ve finally hit the wildest chapter yet in the Marcus Rashford saga.
According to Christian Falk of BILD, Bayern Munich are now considering a shock move for the Manchester United forward—a twist few saw coming in what has become one of the messiest high-profile transfer stories of the summer.
For a player once hailed as the future of English football, Rashford’s decline has been as jarring as it’s been swift. And now, after failed loan spells, minimal suitors, and wage demands that most clubs can’t meet, Bayern may be the last escape hatch for both Rashford and United.
Manchester United Are Done With Rashford
Make no mistake: Manchester United want Marcus Rashford gone. New head coach Ruben Amorim has already made it clear he doesn’t see Rashford in his plans, publicly distancing himself from the player during early press availability.
It’s no wonder. Rashford, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, failed to impress under Unai Emery and returned to Old Trafford with even more baggage. Villa don’t want him permanently, and his performances did little to rehabilitate his value.
United are desperate for a clean slate—and offloading Rashford’s £300k-per-week wages is a major priority. So far, though, that’s proven nearly impossible.
Nobody Wants Rashford… Except Bayern?
Rashford’s salary has priced out nearly every interested club. Borussia Dortmund and Napoli both explored a deal, but quickly moved on when they saw the financials. Even Aston Villa, a Champions League team this season, couldn’t afford to keep him on their books.
Rashford, for his part, is reportedly unwilling to take a pay cut. He still sees himself as a global superstar and wants to play for a Champions League-caliber giant. He’s flirted with Barcelona, but they’re focused on signing Nico Williams, who’s younger, more explosive, and—most importantly—cheaper.
That leaves Bayern Munich, a club with cash, pedigree, and a desperate need for a left winger.
Bayern’s Need Could Match Rashford’s Ambition
The Bavarians have made a habit of signing Premier League players in recent years—Sadio Mané, Harry Kane, Leroy Sané, and last summer’s newest arrival Michael Olise. A Rashford deal wouldn’t be out of character.
And Bayern need help on the left. Serge Gnabry has regressed, Sané is now at Galatasaray, and Kingsley Coman’s injury record has caught up to him. Bayern want someone experienced who can stretch the pitch and create space for Kane. Rashford, in theory, ticks those boxes.
But “in theory” has become Rashford’s curse.
Rashford Needs Out—and This Might Be His Only Exit
What makes this development so wild isn’t that Bayern are interested—it’s that they may be the only club willing and able to take the risk.
Rashford has to get out of Manchester. The pressure, the media circus, the toxic atmosphere—it’s all too much. A move abroad, especially to a club like Bayern, could be the fresh start he needs.
But Bayern won’t be fooled by name value alone. If Rashford wants this move to happen, he’ll need to do something he hasn’t done in years: prove he’s worth the wages.
