Breaking: NFL Sees Star Un-Retire After 1 Season To Join Playoff Contender

The NFL has seen numerous players over the years retire, just to later come out of retirement. The decision to take a year off from the violent sport can sometimes bode well for veterans who have played for years.

The Miami Dolphins are filling a void at the tight end position following Monday’s trade of Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers by acquiring tight end Darren Waller:

The Dolphins are trading a conditional 2026 sixth to the New York Giants, who held Waller’s rights, for a 2027 seventh-round pick, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Waller agreed to a one-year deal with the Dolphins worth up to $5 million, agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey told Schefter.

Waller, 32, announced his retirement last June, saying that a health scare he experienced in November of 2023 gave him clarity about his life.
