Manchester United and Fulham have made inquiries about Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu.
That’s according to journalist Orazio Accomando, who reports that Manchester United and Fulham have spoken to Çalhanoğlu’s agents despite his desire to join Galatasaray.
The 31-year-old midfielder is currently pushing for a move away from the Champions League finalists after a miserable end to the season for them and elimination from the Club World Cup.
The situation is already getting vitriolic, with Çalhanoğlu targeted in comments made by Lautaro Martinez and his wife then carrying out a very public spat on social media as a result.
The expectation was that Çalhanoğlu would head to Turkey, particularly after he was spotted flying into the country, but Accomando reports there is an issue on that front. His suitors, Galatasaray, can only offer Inter Milan €15m.
The Italian side want €40m and so there is a major gap between the two parties. That, according to him, has led Fulham and Manchester United to make enquiries with Çalhanoğlu’s agents. He also has interest in Saudi Arabia.
This may be a scare tactic for Galatasaray, who have been made aware that would be difficult to get the midfielder if an auction was started.
In truth it is hard to see Manchester United or Fulham being interested in Çalhanoğlu, particularly for €40m, but Accomando insists that enquiries have been made, nonetheless.
