Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga just flipped and Spurs are in perfect position

The Milwaukee Bucks likely thought they were doing a good thing when they waived Damian Lillard to create room to sign Myles Turner, but they were sorely mistaken. NBA Insider Chris Haynes reported that the Greek Freak is "not pleased" with the move, and that puts the Bucks in greater danger of the exact thing they've hoped to avoid: a trade request from their franchise superstar.

Spurs must be ready to pounce on Giannis

The Spurs haven't done much this summer, so they still have all of their resources at their disposal if a blockbuster move becomes available. San Antonio fans have been antsy with anticipation for this summer. Local reporters have said since last summer that the Silver and Black were "prioritizing 2025," but the only transaction they've made is the acquisition of Luke Kornet.

Don't get me wrong, Kornet is a great signing, and he'll help this team immensely, but nobody watched this team play last year and believed that they were a Luke Kornet-type player away from a playoff run. There's more work to be done, and Victor Wembanyama is a bona fide top 10 player, so it's time to get to work.

Adding Giannis Antetokounmpo would shut everybody up posthaste. We're talking about adding a top three player in the league to a roster with another top 10 player. The pairing would elevate the Spurs to one of the favorites to come out of the Western Conference which is getting more dangerous by the hour.

The Houston Rockets have been unnervingly active. They added Kevin Durant, Dorian Finney-Smith, Clint Capela, and re-signed Steven Adams. The Spurs' long-time rival is now stacked with versatility throughout their roster. They can throw different types of big men at Wembanyama, and it would be nice for him to have another star with size on the floor who can influence those matchups.

With Giannis on the floor, teams wouldn't be able to just beat up on Vic. He's added weight to his frame, but he's still slender. The Greek Freak is not. He will dominate the interior and collapse defenses no matter what kind of big men you have on the floor. That would give Wembanyama more space to dominate with his guard-like abilities in that 7'4" frame.

It's only day two of free agency, so there's still time for the Spurs to add talent. They have two open roster spots and players they could trade. But as the Bucks' roster takes shape, the NBA's current most interesting player will probably make a decision on whether he wants to remain in Milwaukee or not. But they aren't off to a good start, and that could be good news for the Silver and Black.
