It’s not even training camp but this Jaguars rival already looks stuck in neutral

The Jacksonville Jaguars only won four games last season, but they weren’t the worst team in the division— the Tennessee Titans were. However, Jacksonville was behind the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans. The franchise has since spent the offseason improving its roster, hoping to return to the top of the division. Fortunately for the Jaguars, the teams in front of them have a few concerns that could assist Jacksonville’s journey.

The team that finished directly ahead of the Jaguars was the Indianapolis Colts, who had eight wins. While Jacksonville has seemingly made all the right moves this offseason, the Colts will enter training camp with a huge concern at what’s considered the most important position. Highlighted in a recent piece by The Athletic, looking at one lingering question for every NFL team, Colts reporter James Boyd questioned when will Anthony Richardson return.

Between Richardson’s health, and the fact that he’s in a quarterback battle with Daniel Jones, Indy’s QB position could keep the team stagnant, allowing the Colts to be caught by the Jaguars.

Colts’ concerning quarterback situation could allow Jaguars to pass them up

As Boyd explained, Richardson’s participation in the offseason program ended on May 29 because of an aggravated AC joint— the same AC joint Richardson had surgery on back in October 2023. While the Colts have been open about the injury, they’ve also been honest about not having a clear timetable for his return. That’s certainly concerning for Colts fans, as all eyes now turn to Daniel Jones, who was brought to Indy to push Richardson towards his potential.

That certainly could still happen, but as things currently stand, it’s not looking good in Indianapolis right now. The Jaguars must be ready to capitalize on a Colts team that could either remain stagnant or face a regression. With a ton of promising talent on both sides of the ball, Jacksonville absolutely should be competing with the Houston Texans to be the best team in the AFC South.
