Everton are closing in on a deal to sign Villarreal striker Thierno Barry, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their maiden season in their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, with David Moyes making a new striker a priority following the departures of Armando Broja and Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the end of their contracts.

Now the Merseyside club have made progress on their move to sign France Under-21 international Barry, as The Friedkin Group close in on their first summer signing.

According to Romano, Everton and Villarreal are now at the final stages of concluding a deal for the striker, who has been described as 'frightening', with personal terms already agreed between the Toffees and the player.

The 6ft 4 striker was representing the France Under-21 national team at the European Championships this summer and impressed with his performances, which has sparked interest from several clubs across the continent.

But Everton moved to accelerate talks with his club after he was eliminated at the semi-final stage of the tournament, with the Merseyside club looking to pay less than his £34.2m release clause.

Fabrizio Romano had previously revealed to GIVEMESPORT that the player was keen on the move to the Premier League, and a deal is now edging closer to completion.

He's likely to compete with Beto for the starting striker role after Broja returned to Chelsea following his loan spell in the 2024/25 season, while long-time servant Calvert-Lewin departed this week when his contract expired.
