Paul Pogba’s return to football has sparked intrigue across Europe – not just for where he’s ended up, but what he still has left to offer.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who once lit up Old Trafford with his mix of flair and technical ability, has been out of the spotlight since September 2023.

A doping ban and contract termination with Juventus forced an unexpected pause in a career that promised so much yet always seemed to divide opinion.

Now 32, Pogba is aiming to prove himself all over again and fight his way back into Didier Deschamps’ France squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

He has signed a two-year deal with AS Monaco and taken the No.8 shirt.

But it’s the size of his wages in Ligue 1 compared to his time in England that comes as a surprise here.

According to L’Equipe’s report, Pogba will earn €3.84 million per year at Monaco.

A dramatic drop from the €17.6 million he was reportedly making at Manchester United during the 2021/22 season, per Business Insider.

That campaign saw him start 27 games and record ten goal involvements in the Premier League.

However persistent injuries and inconsistency meant United ultimately let him walk away for free in 2022.

Despite winning the Europa League and delivering flashes of world-class quality, Pogba’s second spell in Manchester never truly lived up to expectations after his then-record £89 million move.

The Frenchman was linked with a possible return to United, however those rumours were quickly shut down soon after.

His first competitive appearance for Monaco is now set for August 17 against Le Havre.

All eyes will be on whether Pogba can finally find stability and rediscover the dominant midfield form that once made him one of Europe’s best.
