Diego Leon breaks silence with bold statement ahead of joining Man Utd, 'I'm going to...'

While not a big money deal, Manchester United’s transfer business this summer is soon going to officially include Diego Leon.

As Manchester United fans await the completion of a deal for Bryan Mbeumo to be reached, signing number two of the transfer window is making his way to Manchester.

This is in the case of Paraguayan teenager Diego Leon, who is set to be announced by United this week.

Leon has now been spotted at the airport in Paraguay, saying goodbye to his family who saw him off on his journey to England to join the world’s biggest club.

United agreed a deal to sign Leon back in December 2024, however, he couldn’t make the move until he turned 18. After a trip to Manchester back in January, Leon has already completed his medical and he will be confirmed this week once he has arrived.

Paraguayan media caught the 18-year-old at the airport, where he gave an interview.

Diego Leon sends message ahead of completing move to Manchester United

Despite the excitement around his potential, few are expecting the wonderkid to join and immediately become a first-team fixture.

However, Leon doesn’t exactly agree that he should take his time settling in. Instead, the teenager has spoken at the airport prior to jumping on his flight, telling Versus and journalist Matias Cuevas of his plans.

This is a huge statement from Leon, showcasing his mentality and confidence that he isn’t going to make up the numbers at Old Trafford, but can be a star.

In addition to this, Leon’s father Basilio Leon also spoke with the press at the airport about his son’s move, as Juan Coronel reported.

“Don’t mess around, my son. Make the most of these 4 years. Don’t make mistakes, I told him.”

"No jodas, hijo mío. Aprovechá al máximo estos 4 años. No te equivoques, le dije".

Leon statement is a stark warning to Harry Amass and Patrick Dorgu

Leon has described the United move as a dream, and it will be a massive culture shock for the South American talent, which might mean it takes time for him to settle.

By clinching the move, Leon will be United’s first Paraguayan and this alone brings pressure. So it is important fans don’t throw potential onto him.

However, pressure is clearly something he relishes, making his goals clear and suggesting he will play his way into the plans of Ruben Amorim, it is a warning to Harry Amass and Patrick Dorgu.

All three are young and have areas to improve on, but Leon is backing himself to arrive and shine which would take minutes away from a current option.

Pre-season may play host to a battle between Amass and Leon, one which Amass should win, but with Leon bringing the physicality that Amorim wants, it is not cut and dry just yet.
