Manchester United are confident they will sign Bryan Mbeumo in time for the start of their pre-season schedule as talks continue with Brentford over his proposed transfer. The London club values Mbeumo at £65 million and wants the bulk of the fee paid upfront if they are to sell him.
United believe they will be able to reach a suitable compromise with Brentford over a deal, after their offer of £55m plus a further £7.5m in add-ons was rejected. There is still a belief that Brentford would accept a formal approach of £60m with £5m of achievable add-ons included.
Ruben Amorim would also like to add a striker to his squad this month, with Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins under consideration. United want to sign Premier League-proven players this summer, and the 29-year-old would fit the bill alongside Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as players who have already shown they can cope with the physical demands of the league.
