Multiple players’ contracts expired at the end of June, and now, clubs are announcing their departures. Leeds also announced Manor Solomon’s return to Spurs after his loan. It was also announced that Junior Firpo would be leaving on a free transfer.

Now, a bit of controversy has been stirred up. In Firpo’s farewell video on Instagram, he says he was ”never given the chance” to stay at Elland Road.

“This club has truly felt like home and staying was something I was ready for but that possibility was never on the table,”

This has lead to some confusion, as it was reported that the Whites prepared a huge offer for him to stay. Many fans will be curious as to what that part of the video was referring to. To many, it looks like a swipe at the ownership for not giving him a ”good” contract.

Junior Firpo was going to leave anyway

There are a lot of reasons for Firpo leaving the club. After putting together two strong seasons, his aim was always to move to a ”bigger” club. How many left backs in Europe can boast of four goals and 18 assists in two league seasons? Firpo also hesitated everytime he has been questioned about his future over the past year.

Since January, it has been quite obvious where he was heading. Leeds even offered him a new contract. Instead of him blaming the ownership, he should just have signed a new deal if he truly wanted to stay in West Yorkshire.
