Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington has proven to be an invaluable asset for the franchise. Washington established himself as a foundational piece for the Mavericks during their NBA Finals run in 2024.
The 6-6 forward is looking forward to playing with another versatile wing/forward in his new teammate and former Duke superstar Cooper Flagg.
“I can’t wait,” Washington said. “I can’t wait for him to get here. Can’t wait to see how he incorporates himself into our team and our organization, and I just can’t wait to be able to go out there and play with him.”
Versatile, athletic wings don’t grow on trees, and most teams are lucky to even have one player to fit that mold. With Washington and Flagg now flanking the wings in Jason Kidd’s flow offense, the Mavericks are poised to create matchup nightmares for opposing teams.
“I feel like I’ve found my role, I’m a lot more settled now, and I know my niche,” Washington said. “I just try to be the best version of myself each and every night, and I feel like I’m a versatile player that brings a lot to the game. So just understanding who I am and just trying to go out there and be that every single night.”
While nine-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving recovers from a torn ACL, the Mavericks could roll out a formidable starting lineup featuring D’Angelo Russell, Cooper Flagg, P.J. Washington, Anthony Davis, and Dereck Lively II.
And behind them is a deep bench mob that includes Klay Thompson, Brandon Williams, Max Christie, Naji Marshall, Caleb Martin, and Daniel Gafford.
With a reloaded roster full of youth, depth, and versatility, the Mavericks appear poised to contend again—sooner rather than later.
