Newcastle United have been told how they can sign a £50m Premier League star who was has been told he can leave his club this summer.
The Magpies are looking to be active in the summer transfer window after failing to bring in a single player to improve the starting XI in nearly two years.
Fans need to go back to the 2023 summer transfer window to find the last player who made an impact in the starting XI. Lewis Hall signed on loan, with his move being made permanent a year later.
Newcastle United are aware that there are several positions in need of improvement this summer, with a goalkeeper, right-sided centre-back, right-winger and a striker on Eddie Howe’s shopping list.
On Monday, Geordie Boot Boys were informed that Newcastle are admirers of Liverpool star Harvey Elliott, who has caught the eye of many thanks to his heroics at the Under-21 European Championships in Slovakia.
Newcastle are one of several clubs looking at signing Elliott this summer, but they have just been informed about how they hold the upper hand on other clubs eyeing his signature.

While he was hailed as a hero for the Young Lions, Elliott struggled for game time in the Premier League with Liverpool. The 22-year-old midfielder made just two league starts last season, both of them coming after they had won the title.
He was a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp, but that has been far from the case under new Reds boss Arne Slot.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are looking for a fee in excess of £40m for Elliott if it includes a buy-back option, and £50m if it comes without. Newcastle have a healthy transfer budget to spend this summer, so either fee should not come with many issues.
Additionally, the report states that Elliot is looking for regular game time at a new club and will favour whoever has Champions League football. While the report states that could mean he moves abroad this summer, Newcastle instantly hold the upper hand thanks to their inclusion in Europe’s top competition next season.
Elliott has had a trophy-laden career at a young age, and has even experienced a Champions League final with Liverpool in 2022, so he looks like a perfect addition to Howe’s starting lineup.

A bonus for Newcastle and Howe is that Elliott has not confined himself to just one position. The youngster predominantly plays as a central midfielder, but can also play as an attacking midfielder or on the right wing.
Newcastle are desperate to sign a right-winger this summer, with Jacob Murphy the only option in that position at this point in time. While Murphy had a brilliant 2024/25 campaign, there will naturally be concerns over whether he can continue that form for years to come.
A boost for Newcastle is that Elliott appears to have a great friendship with Tino Livramento. The pair played with each other with the Young Lions in Slovakia last month, and are regularly seen in the comment sections of their social media posts.
In an ideal world, Livramento will be in Elliott’s ear, telling him how he can become a legend on Tyneside and forge a promising career for himself.
