Report: Manchester City have been monitoring £64m Arsenal target

Manchester City have been one of the busier clubs in the Premier League this summer.

After experiencing a tough 2024/25 campaign, Pep Guardiola was determined to add four to five new faces to his squad during the current transfer window, and Man City have already hit that target with Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcus Bettinelli arriving at the Etihad Stadium.

The Manchester club are not done there, as Fabrizio Romano thinks Man City will move for a right-back before the summer is over, while a decision to add to other positions may still come.

One role that does not need addressing is the position of striker, due to the presence of Erling Haaland, but despite this, Man City have now been linked to one of Arsenal’s top targets.

Arsenal are one of many Premier League clubs in the market for a striker this summer, and it is known that Benjamin Sesko is a top target for the Gunners.

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are nearing a deal with RB Leipzig for the 22-year-old, which is said to be worth around £64m (€75m), which is lower than what the German club originally wanted.

With the North London club yet to reach a deal with Leipzig, the report states that many big clubs are monitoring the Slovenia international’s situation, with the striker on the radar of Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

City may have an interest in Sesko, but it is hard to see the Manchester club parting ways with £64m for a player they do not need at present, as that money could be used to address other key areas.

How Benjamin Sesko compares to Erling Haaland

Man City were one of the very few clubs in the Premier League who entered the summer transfer window without a striker on their list, as Haaland has committed his future to the club until 2034.

The Norwegian star did not have his best season in a sky blue shirt last time around, but the 24-year-old is expected to lead the line at the Etihad Stadium for many more years, with the superstar expected to return to his best over the coming months.

Sesko is on course to become one of the best strikers in Europe, but he is not on the level of Haaland yet, who is arguably the best forward on the planet.

Man City should count themselves lucky they got the Norwegian star in their ranks as the 24-year-old will fire the Manchester club to many more titles over the coming years.
