Sky Sports: Arsenal now in 'advanced talks' to sign 'unstoppable' striker, five-year deal agreed

Arsenal are seemingly closing in on a move for Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports - ending what has been one of the biggest transfer sagas of the past 12 months, with the Gunners entering 'advanced talks' to sign the in-demand striker, who has been named 'unstoppable' this season.

The Gunners have been in the market for a striker for quite some time, especially since the winter when they saw first and second-choice strikers Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus both ruled out by injury within the space of three weeks across January and February.

Report: Arsenal in 'Advanced Talks' to Sign Mikel Arteta

The Gunners appear to have finally ended their search for a striker

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was forced to use Mikel Merino as an auxiliary forward as they missed out on silverware for the fifth year running, prompting interest in strikers such as Gyokeres and compatriot Alexander Isak.

But despite uncertainty over who they would plunge for to lead the line, the report by Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri states that Arsenal are now in 'advanced talks' to sign Gyokeres from Sporting, with the Gunners aiming to close a deal for his services.

The club feel as though they are touching the 'final line' in the race to land the Swedish star, and are thought to have agreed a five-year deal with the former Brighton starlet as they look to strengthen their attack.

Any prospective deal for RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Sesko is now moving away from Arteta, who wants Gyokeres in as his preferred target.

Gyokeres scored an outrageous 39 goals in just 33 Primeira Liga games for Sporting this season, as well as the vital last-gasp equaliser in their eventual win over rivals Benfica in the Portuguese Cup, and a hat-trick over Manchester City in the Champions League back in November.

A solid spell in the Championship at Coventry City saw Sporting take a punt on his talent and that is a move that has worked out incredibly well for the club, though it remains to be seen just how much the Gunners will pay to take him to the club to end their striking woes.
