Packers GM Brian Gutekunst’s Top Remaining Priority Revealed

The Green Bay Packers have built one of the top young rosters in the league around ascending young quarterback Jordan Love, but a bit piece of the puzzle and a top priority remains for general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers as the 2025 NFL season looms.

With training camp set to begin in a matter of weeks, Elgton Jenkins remains in a contract standoff, and did not participate in mandatory minicamp last month, which could set the stage for a holdout later this summer.

Elgton Jenkins is Packers’ Most Important contract Extension

Filling in for injured center Josh Myers, Green Bay guard Elgton Jenkins (74) provides pass protection during the second quarter of their game against Detroit Lions Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Bleacher Report NFL analyst Moe Moton lists each team’s most important remaining contract extension, including Jenkins getting the nod for the Packers.

“According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Jenkins skipped OTAs for contractual reasons,” Moton writes for B/R. “The versatile offensive lineman will move from guard to center for the upcoming campaign, which factors into his desire for a new deal. He reported to mandatory minicamp, but he didn’t participate in on-field drills, which is an official hold in.

“He has no guaranteed money left on his contract, so the two-time Pro Bowler will likely push for long-term financial security leading up to the season.”

Jenkins, a key cog in the Packers’ offensive line, finished as Pro Football Focus’ No. 3-ranked pass-blocking guard in the league last season after allowing just one sack.

If the Packers can get a deal done with Jenkins before camp begins, it would go a long way to being not just a springboard into the season but also a step towards continuing to build continuity and cohesion in front of Love.
