Manchester United’s summer rebuild is proving more complicated than expected, as the club juggles fresh arrivals with necessary departures.

The loss of Liam Delap to Chelsea was an early setback, especially given how close United came to landing the Englishman.

Matheus Cunha’s arrival from Wolves injected some much-needed optimism, however.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is also still expected to move to Old Trafford.

However, the striker situation remains unsolved going into preseason.

Victor Osimhen remains a target unlikely due to his wage demands.

While Hugo Ekitike is more likely to join Liverpool, especially due to the Reds already carrying out background checks on the striker.

Therefore, United will continue to pursue targets of lesser calibre.

Genk’s Tolu Arokodare has been a name mentioned, although Fulham lead the race to sign the 6ft’4 striker.

While former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham was recently offered to the hierarchy at United.

It now appears that Abraham is set to sign for Besiktas, according to Besiktas’ YouTube video revealing that Tammy Abraham is in Instanbul to meet his new teammates and staff.

The 27-year-old will be playing under former Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Englishman is expected to be the main striker under Solskjaer, as Besiktas will look to build on last season’s top four finish, going into the 2025/26 season.

Abraham netted 15 league goals for Chelsea in the 19/20 season, at a time where his trajectory was much higher.

However, the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury suffered at Roma under Jose Mourinho, was a huge setback.

Now, he finds himself embarking on a new chapter at Besiktas, where he’ll be hoping to smash in the goals on a regular basis.

This news may not mean much to United fans, who’ll be expecting the club to sign a striker of higher quality and ceiling.

However, nothing can be ruled out until deadline day – especially if United continue to miss out on primary targets.

‘Panic signing’ a striker, regardless of ability level may be what the club find themselves doing.

Much like what happened with Odion Ighalo in 2020.
