Man Utd are desperate to move players out this summer with a twist in the future of Alejandro Garnacho’s future.
Manchester United’s biggest issue this summer isn’t going to be signing the players that Ruben Amorim needs to take the club to the next level, it is moving the players out who don’t want to be there.
The other “problem child” is Alejandro Garnacho, who could yet return to Old Trafford and report for pre-season training despite a potential frosty reception.
Man Utd get mixed news in Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea transfer pursuit
There has been mixed news in terms of Garnacho’s possible United exit, in particular, in terms of Chelsea's reported interest.
United’s Premier League rivals are set to sign Joao Pedro in a £60m deal, taking the number of their first-team forwards to nearly 15. Despite their ability to circumnavigate PSR using longer contracts, even they aren’t in the position to make a big money signing in a position that they are well-catered for.
Reports last week claimed United and Chelsea had talked about a possible swap deal with Christopher Nkunku being considered to join the Red Devils.
It could be the sort of move that sees Amorim end up better off with Nkunku capable of playing through the middle of the attack, not just on the wing. He’s also never had his attitude questioned either.
According to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, the players that he has in the USA for the FIFA Club World Cup are the ones that he trusts, with Nkunku one of them.
What has Enzo Maresca said amid links to Garnacho
Addressing transfer speculation, Maresca kept his cards close to his chest, via The Mirror.
"In this moment all the players that are with us I don't want to lose them, but we have said many times that when the transfer window is open many things can happen, to buy a player or to sell a player," the Chelsea manager explained about speculation linking Trevoh Chalobah with a move.
"Trevoh came back to us in January, if we did a Champions League spot and top four spot it's also because of Trev, he helped us a lot. In this moment he also plays some games for us, we are happy with him. Anything can happen but not only for Trev but all 25 players in the squad."
Nkunku was a regular for Chelsea last season playing over 45 games, but Chelsea seem intent on signing Garnacho. Maresca has a lot of options, however, his club continues to spend and extend a squad that has more than 40 names in it.
For United, they would be better off losing a few pounds in the deal in terms of Garnacho’s valuation if it meant getting him off the books and Nkunku in. If Amorim wants a fresh start, he needs players who will buy into his philosophy and not cause friction in the squad and on the training ground.
