Former Kansas guard Gradey Dick announces plans for golf tournament in Wichita

Former University of Kansas men’s basketball guard Gradey Dick of the NBA’s Toronto Raptors on Tuesday announced plans to hold his first-annual “Gradey Dick Charitable Golf Tournament” on Aug. 11 at Wichita’s Crestview Country Club.

Dick, a 6-foot-6, 21-year-old native of Wichita who played at KU during the 2022-23 season, was taken 13th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. He hopes to raise over $100,000 for local Wichita charities through the tourney.

Also, Dick will hold a Gradey Dick Youth Basketball Camp Aug. 10 at Wichita Hoops, located in Bel Aire, Kansas.

Details for both events are available at gradeydickgolf.com.

“Without the support from my community and the encouragement from my family I would not be where I am today. It is time to pay it forward and give back,” Dick said in a news release. “Wichita, Kansas will always have a special place in my heart.”

According to the release … “the Gradey Dick donor advised fund invests in influential state non-profits to enhance community potential.”

The release states Dick’s fund also invests in “programs that empower young people through education, mentorship and activities.”

The fund also “promotes physical and mental health by supporting healthcare services, fitness programs and mental health resources.” And it “backs initiatives that improve local infrastructure, foster economic growth and promote cultural enrichment.”

Dick last season, his second in the NBA, averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He hit 41.0% of his shots including 35.0% of his 3s. At KU in 2022-23 he averaged 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest.
