New Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey seemingly will keep wearing his patented No. 5 with the team. Ramsey posted on social media platforms Tuesday a Steelers jersey that read No. 5, Ramsey.
If so, it would mean that putner Cameron Johnston has chosen to switch numbers, much like punter Corliss Waitman did for Aaron Rodgers. Johnston has worn that number since signing with the Steelers last offseason, but it is no surprise to see Ramsey get that number.
The Steelers have allowed star defensive players to wear single digits, as they did with linebacker Patrick Queen, who signed as a free agent last year with No. 6.
Ramsey now enters his age-31 season, but the Steelers will likely use him as a chess piece who plays safety, slot cornerback, and outside cornerback whenever asked by the team.
That versatility will allow the Steelers to have Joey Porter Jr., Darius Slay, and Ramsey all on the field simultaneously in a way they could not execute beforehand.
